Oka Nikolov, the long-time fan favorite and prominent figure at Eintracht Frankfurt, has completed a move to the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer (pending receipt of a work visa). Nikolov, 39, has spent over 19 years with the same club and has featured in over 400 1st and 2nd German Bundesliga matches for the club. He started all ten of the club’s final 2012/2013 matches helping Frankfurt to a Europa League qualification.
Upon embarking upon this new career challenge, Nikolov stated: “Eintracht are my one and only. I had an absolutely incredible time with this fantastic team and I would like to thank both the club and the fans. However, throughout my career an opportunity to move to America and expand my horizons was always a dream of mine and one which I hope to fulfill now.”
He now joins the MLS outfit officially upon the opening of the summer transfer window on July 9, 2013.
