Player Evaluation

Reno 1868 FC

Darwin Espinal is a technical, quick-footed striker in a two-man front line or left wing in a three man front line. Espinal has a good sense for playing in combinations with his midfield and finding space on a counter attack. Clever ideas and soft feet permit him to challenge in the final third of the field. As a young player, match experience will help to build his tactical awareness and train Espinal how to consistently get open and more involved throughout the match.

Espinal was born in Honduras but raised in the United States. He signed his first professional contract in 2014 at 19 years old with the Tampa Bay Rowdies (then in the NASL). He registered 4 goals and one assist in 24 matches throughout his first professional year. He was sent to a development team shortly after his manager was sacked and later signed with South Florida Surf of the Premier Development League where he continued to impress such that he earned a trial opportunity with San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer and their affiliate club Reno FC of the USL where he signed a contract in July 2017. Espinal has participated in the Honduras Olympic and U23 National Team competitions featuring five times for his native country.
